DESCRIPTION:Bioinspired materials have the potential to transform how we 
 study disease and develop new therapies\, but only when advances in mater
 ials\, biology and engineering work together. In this lecture\, April Klo
 xin will explore how molecularly engineered materials inspired by human t
 issues can reveal how cells respond to their surroundings and create new 
 opportunities in biomanufacturing and therapeutic development.\n\nApril K
 loxin\nElizabeth Inez Kelley Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Enginee
 ring\n\nBuilding Bioinspired Materials and Pathways to Impact\n\nKloxin a
 nd her research group design synthetic matrices with controlled biochemic
 al\, structural\, mechanical and dynamic properties. These materials allo
 w researchers to investigate how cells respond to changes in their microe
 nvironments during injury and chronic diseases\, including fibrosis and c
 ancer. They also offer ways to direct cell behavior for applications in b
 iomanufacturing and in the development and delivery of biologics and cell
 -based therapies.\n\nThe lecture will also highlight the collaborative na
 ture of scientific progress. Drawing on work at the University of Delawar
 e\, Kloxin will reflect on the mentors\, trainees\, faculty\, staff and c
 ollaborators who have helped move ideas from molecular design to applicat
 ion. She will discuss how integrating biomaterials with advanced imaging\
 , bioprinting\, cellular and molecular tools\, and flow-based processing 
 can create new platforms for discovery\, therapeutic evaluation and manuf
 acturing — and how those scientific and collaborative pathways can cont
 ribute to improving human health and society.\n\nBio\n\nApril M. Kloxin\,
